The basics

  • Start as soon as you get your sponsorship card and give yourself plenty of time.
  • Encourage family, friends and work colleagues to help you fundraise.
  • Always carry your sponsorship card with you - you never know who you’ll meet!
  • Create your own online sponsorship page on a website such as My Charity.

Fundraising for family and friends

  • Organise a coffee morning for 10 friends and charge them €10 each.
  • Ask people to sponsor you instead of giving you a birthday present.
  • Offer practical favours in return for sponsorship, i.e. walk your neighbour’s dog.
  • Ask people to sponsor you in return for singing karaoke or dyeing your hair.

Fundraising in the community

  • Hold a car boot sale and ask people if they’re willing to donate unwanted objects.
  • Organise a quiz night or a bake sale in your local pub or community hall.
  • Find out if you can do a street collection in a popular local spot.
  • Ask your supermarket if you can organise a bag-packing afternoon.

Fundraising at work

  • Ask if you can use the company newsletter to request sponsorship.
  • Find out if your boss is willing to make a company donation.
  • Organise a dress-down or no uniform day in return for sponsorship
  • Plan a fun work night out and ask people to make a donation in return.
